[Telling Hiro to slow down isn't really that effective.] As long as you stay in contact I guess.

[Nah, there's a reason he hasn't told anybody he tried running out to the front lines...] I think so! I mean it's kind of important...it's gonna be something big, so...[He nods.] It'll be great when it's done.

[Thrall would consider grabbing Hiro and putting h in a box and never letting him leave that box. Because... CHILD, PLEASE.]

I have no doubt about that. You have done extraordinary things already; this will be no different.

[He unwraps his arm and puts those things away, talking as he does so.] Have you made many friends?

[Yeah, because Hiro wouldn't figure out creative ways to get out of the box. SORRY THRALL-DAD.]

...thanks. Really. [That earns something of a shy smile and he breaks eye contact, genuinely pleased with the compliment. The question causes him to look back into the locket though.]

I guess it depends on how many you'd count as many. But I have a few now. [And you have no idea how amazing and strange it is, dude. He was still getting used to it back home, this is entirely different.]

[He would. And then Thrall would just stare into the camera like he's on The Office. But-- oh nooo... Hiro's not only being super cute, but Thrall recognizes that sort of behavior. Kid needs acknowledgment. Ancestors know he does, too.] You are very welcome.

[He'd like, pat his hair if he wasn't 300 miles away.]

That is very good to hear. [The more people Hiro knows, the more resources he'll have. And the less likely he'll be stuck somewhere, helpless. That's Thrall's hope, anyway. He looks pleased at the development, though his gaze gets a far-off cast to it.] Our ties with others are important. They're powerful in their own right-- sometimes as strong as blood.

[Acknowledgment comes in bounds at home but this somehow seems more important. People here don't automatically know he's a genius and while he doesn't mind sharing that fact when it comes up, people recognizing his brilliant and talent on their own can be nice. He's not necessarily modest, but he's not the type to actively brag about his intellect either.

You mean like friends becoming your family? [The tone's a little dry but it's a concept he's more than familiar with. The nerds became like family back home, and he has a few people here he's grown very, very close to whether he wants to admit it or not.] The ties are important but what about...[Hm. How to phrase it?] What about if you don't want to make those ties too tight so people can still leave when they want to?

Yes... [Thrall doesn't have anything in terms of actual family. They were all killed when he was a baby, or before. But he has brothers, like Vol'jin and Cairne, who may look nothing like him but they are family.]

There is nothing about those bonds that says they cannot leave. It will hurt, of course, but... Everyone has their own path to tread, whether it's by your side or far away but in your thoughts. [He tilts his head.] True friendships stay with you long after they have passed.

[Funny story about that...they can talk about lack of family another time. At least Hiro has Aunt Cass though.

He's quiet for a minute as he lets that sink in...before there's a grin.]

Is the infinite wisdom part of the whole "talks to spirits" thing?

[Thrall's cheeks darken. If he were human, it'd be a ruby red blush.] N-- not exactly. [He glances away, rubs the back of his neck.] It's... I have seen a lot, and-- you must find me terribly dull. I talk too much.

It's no big deal. [A shrug follows.] I probably haven't seen that much compared to you so talk away. [He'll just tune you out if it gets too dull, just like everybody else he talks to. That's a good lesson he's learned in his 14 years on the planet.]

[Oh thank god. Thrall is so awkward. So bad at this. So bad at everything.] Oh. I-- all right. [But now he's been put on the spot, so he isn't sure what to say. LMAO, THE LIFE.]

[Thrall you're lucky Hiro's not that much of a brat that he starts laughing...though he looks like he might be trying not to.] I didn't mean right now if that helps any. Just in general.

Yes, of course. [He can tell Hiro's trying not to laugh, and that just makes it worse. He clears his throat.]

Is... there anything else you wanted to ask me?

[zerotohiro]

Not right now. [Have a reassuring grin.] I gotta get going anyway, I'm almost there. [Wherever "there" is, Hiro's still not saying.] But I'll see you later?

[He almost does, but-- he'll let Hiro keep that secret. For now.]
